Brierley Investments Ltd eventually grew to become the largest company in New Zealand during the 1980’s and by 1987, it had an incredible 160,000 shareholders. This was roughly 10% of the adult population of New Zealand at that time. It owned the Bank of New Zealand and Ron Brierley was the Chairman.  Brierley’s were also very active in Australia and the UK with another 40,000 shareholders in Australia.
